The CAVI project aims to establish a Cisco Network Academy for the Blind, as a joint partnership between Curtin University Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), Cisco Systems and the Association for the Blind of Western Australia (ABWA). Delivering the Cisco IT Essentials I & 2 and the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) credentials, the program would deliver both VET and industry recognised qualifications in an accessible computer training environment customised to the needs of blind and vision impaired students. This involves converting the Cisco Network Academy Program (CNAP) curriculum to a format suitable to teach students with vision-impairment and other disabilities, certifying sight-impaired instructors and developing the Cisco Networking Academy to enable it to become self-supporting
The Cisco Networking Academy Program is a comprehensive e-learning program that provides students with the Internet technology skills essential in a global economy. The Networking Academy delivers web-based content, online assessment, student performance tracking, hands-on labs, instructor training and support, and preparation for industry standard certifications. There are at present 10,010 academies worldwide (1200 in the Asia/Pacific region) with over 454,800 students enrolled (94,079 in the Asia/Pacific region)
