E-Lab 3.1.5 - Configuring a Serial Interface In this lab, you will configure a serial interface on the Lilongwe and Dar Es Salaam routers so they can communicate. Step 1.1 Enter into privileged EXEC mode Step 1.2 Enter global configuration mode. Step 2 Set the hostname to Lilongwe. Step 3 Set the enable password to class. Step 4.1 Enter interface configuration mode for serial interface 0/0. Step 4.2 Enter the IP address 192.168.15.1 255.255.255.0 for interface S0/0. Step 4.3 This serial interface will require a clockrate of 56000. Step 4.4 Issue the no shutdown command to bring the interface up. Step 4.5 Use the command end to exit into privileged EXEC mode. Step 5 Save your configuration. Step 6 Now perform basic configuration of the adjacent router. Begin by entering global configuration mode. Step 7 Set the hostname to Dar_Es_Salaam. Step 8 Set the enable password to class. Step 9.1 On router Dar Es Salaam, Enter interface configuration mode for serial interface 0/0. Step 9.2 Enter the IP address 192.168.15.2 255.255.255.0 for interface S0/0. Step 9.3 Issue the no shutdown command to bring the interface up. Step 9.4 Use the command end to exit into privileged EXEC mode. Step 10 Save your configuration. Step 11 Enter the command show interfaces serial 0/0 to show details about the interface on Lilongwe#. Step 12.1 Verify that the serial connection is functioning by pinging the serial interface of Dar_Es_Salaam. Step 12.2 Enter the command show interfaces serial 0/0 to show details about the interface on Dar_es_Salaam. Step 13 Verify that the serial connection is functioning by pinging the serial interface of Lilongwe.
