E-Lab 4.1.3 - Implementation, Monitoring, and Maintenance of CDP This lab is based on a 1700 series router and presents commands associated with the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP). Step 1 Start by entering into privileged EXEC mode. Step 2 Enter into global configuration mode. Step 3 Enable CDP globally on the router. Step 4 Now enter into interface configuration mode on FastEthernet 0. Step 5 Enable CDP on this interface. Step 6 Exit back into privileged EXEC mode by typing end. Step 7 Now look at some commands to view CDP information. Start by seeing if CDP is running and how often the information is updated. Use the command show cdp. Step 8 Next type the command that allows viewing neighbouring devices that were detected with CDP. Step 9 To see the details of the neighboring switch, type show cdp entry *. Note: press space bar to go to next screen of information when more is present. Step 10 To see how often CDP packets are sent and if the interfaces are up or down, use the show cdp interface command.
