E-Lab 2.1.3b - Router User Interface Modes In this lab, you will view available command options in both user and privileged EXEC modes by using the ?. The privileged EXEC mode accesses all router commands. It can be protected by requiring a password, or user ID and password. This allows only authorized users to access the router. Configuration and management commands require that the network administrator be at the privileged EXEC level. Global configuration mode and all other more specific configuration modes can only be reached from the privileged EXEC mode. The privileged EXEC mode can be identified from the CLI session by the # prompt. Step 1 You are currently on the router console port in the user EXEC mode. This mode is denoted by the > symbol. View the commands available in this mode by entering ?. From this mode, enter into privileged EXEC mode. Step 2 The router is now in the privileged EXEC mode, denoted by the # sign. All show and debug commands are available in this mode. View the various commands available in this mode by entering ?. Remember to use the space bar to scroll through multiple screens of information. Then use the show version command to display the configuration of the system hardware (including available interfaces), the software version, the names and sources of configuration files and the boot images.
