CISCO ACADEMY FOR THE VISION IMPAIRED

The Cisco Academy for the Vision Impaired (CAVI) was established by CUCAT and is a joint project between Curtin University and the Association for the Blind of Western Australia. The Academy offers Cisco accredited Courses in Information Technology and Computer Networking.

The Cisco Networking Academy Program is a comprehensive e-learning program that provides students with the Internet technology skills essential in a global economy. The Networking Academy delivers web-based content, online assessment, student performance tracking, hands-on labs and preparation for industry standard certifications.

CCNA DISCOVERY

The Cisco CCNA Discovery curriculum provides foundational networking knowledge, practical experience, opportunities for career exploration, and soft-skills development to help students prepare for entry-level careers in IT and networking. The curriculum offers a hands-on approach to learning, and uses interactive tools and easy-to-follow labs to help students learn the general theory needed to build networks. Discovery path from CCNA Discovery 1 and 2 you can undertake a separate exam external exam known as CCENT which stands for Cisco Certified Entry Level network Technician. This is an internationally recognised and highly valued qualification in computer networking. After completion of Discovery 1 through 4, you can sit for CCNA certification. CCNA is an internationally recognised computer networking qualification.

IT ESSENTIALS (ITE)

ITE 1

The ITE 1 course covers PC Hardware and Software covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts. Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system, and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software. Students will be able to connect to the Internet and share resources in a network environment. ITE 1 also investigates laptops and portable devices, wireless connectivity, security, safety and environmental issues, and communication skills.

ITE 2

IT ESSENTIALS 2 a lab-based course designed to be an overview of Network Operating Systems. This course introduces and covers how to use the Linux operating system. An overview of the Windows 2000 Network Operating System is provided as well. The course covers concepts in TCP/IP processes and network administration. The student will learn the configuration of network services, including basic network security and troubleshooting. You will learn fundamental command-line features of the Linux environment including file system navigation, file permissions, the vi text editor, command shells, and basic network use. This course covers other fundamental networking basics including LAN and WAN topologies, Networking hardware placement and uses, and cabling standards.

After completing IT Essentials 1 & 2 students can take a separate external exam to qualify them for CompTIA certifications, an internationally recognised and highly valued qualification in Information Technology.
